Don’t look now but the Triple Gold Club is in a great position to expand by two, three, and maybe even five members by the end of the Olympics.

It has been nearly four years since Valtteri Filppula became the 30th Triple Gold Club member, and the first Finn, but in Milano a Suomi gold medal would also see two others join Filppula—Eetu Luostarinen and Niko Mikkola. Both won gold at the 2019 World Championship, and both also won back-to-back Stanley Cups with Florida in 2024 and 2025.

The Czechs have two of 30 members of the Triple Gold as of now, Jaromir Jagr and Jiri Slegr. But they could be getting three compatriots next month—Michal Kempny, Ondrej Palat, and Jan Rutta. All three have in common a gold medal from the historic home World Championship of 2024 in Prague, when Jagr was also inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame. Kempny also won the Cup in 2018 with Washington, while Palat and Rutta won with Tampa Bay in 2020 and again in 2021.

Sweden has the second most current TGC members, with nine, and they have the chance to add as many as three new members, depending on various injury concerns. Gabriel Landeskog, Oliver-Ekman-Larsson, and Victor Hedman are all eligible to join with an Olympic gold. They all have the 2017 World Championship gold in common, but Landeskog also won WM gold in 2013 and Ekman-Larsson won a second gold in 2018. Interestingly, their Stanley Cup wins were all different. Landeskog won with Colorado in 2022; Ekman-Larsson with Florida in 2024; and, Hedman with the Lightning in 2020 and ’21.

However, Landeskog is trying to work his way back to health after suffering an injury on 7 January. Even his Avs coach Jared Bednar has said, “it’s going to be tight,” for Olympic participation. Hedman, meanwhile, has been out of the lineup since undergoing elbow surgery on 9 December 2025, but his timeline suggests he should be ready for Milan.

And, coming on like a powerhouse are the Canadians. They didn’t join the Triple Gold Club until 2002, when Rob Blake (#11), Joe Sakic (#12), and Brendan Shanahan (#13) joined after the team’s historic gold at the Sale Lake Olympics. Since then, they have added eight others and are now the biggest group with eleven total players.

Triple Gold Club could have a first goalie

This year could see a record five more Canadians join the Club—Brad Marchand, Nathan MacKinnon, Sam Reinhart, Mark Stone, and goalie Darcy Kuemper.

Kuemper stands out. He was on that Avs team with Landeskog in 2022 and won WM gold the previous year. Olympic gold would make him the first goalie ever to join the Triple Gold.

At 37 years of age, Marchand would be the fourth oldest to achieve TGC status after Filppula (38) and two Russians (Vyacheslav Fetisov and Pavel Datsyuk, both 39).

MacKinnon won his World Championship gold back in 2015, when Sidney Crosby was on the team and became the first Triple Gold member to achieve his membership by captaining all three teams. MacKinnon also was on that 2022 Colorado team that won the Cup.

Reinhart was on those Panthers teams in ’24 and ’25 as well as Canada’s 2016 World Championship team, along with Stone, who won his Cup with Vegas in 2023.

Injuries might still be a factor in how this list is shaped, and, of course, there is still an immense challenge ahead to winning Olympic gold. But these candidates all play for teams that are among the favourites for the top of the podium, so next month might be unprecedented for fans and followers of the IIHF’s Triple Gold Club. Hockey’s most exclusive membership.

NOTE: In order to be credited with any of the three Triple Gold Club honours, a player must play in at least one game of each event.
