The IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel for the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World U20 Championship IIA has issued a one-game suspension to Spain’s David Martinez for slashing.
The incident occurred at 26:54 of the second period in Game #11 of the tournament between Spain and Korea.
As Korea’s Junseo Lee broke into the Spanish zone, moving toward the net, Martinez was in pursuit from behind and, with one hand on his stick, raised it backward behind his head and swung it recklessly forward, slashing Lee across the forearm. The slash was forceful enough to break Lee’s stick.
This constitutes a violation of Official Playing Rule 61 – Slashing.
The 2026 IIHF Championship Disciplinary Panel has determined that Martinez will receive a one (1) game suspension, in accordance with IIHF Disciplinary Regulations, Article 10.5.
Martinez will serve his suspension in Game #14, Croatia vs. Spain, on Jan. 10, 2026.
