International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) President Luc Tardif was awarded the Olympic Order today by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry at the official ceremony held during the 146th IOC Session in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The Olympic Order, the highest distinction of the Olympic Movement, was presented in recognition of Tardif’s outstanding service and longstanding commitment to the development of ice hockey worldwide and his significant contribution to the Olympic Movement.
For decades, Tardif has played a leading role in advancing ice hockey on the international stage, strengthening the sport’s global reach and ensuring its continued growth within the Olympic program. His dedication to promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect has helped inspire generations of athletes, officials and fans around the world.
Since becoming IIHF President in 2021, Tardif has overseen a period of significant growth for international ice hockey, including the continued expansion of the women’s game, the development of new participation programs, and the strengthening of relationships between the IIHF, the IOC and stakeholders across the global hockey community.
Under his leadership, the IIHF has continued to enhance the Olympic ice hockey tournaments, one of the most prestigious and widely followed competitions of every Winter Olympic Games. Tardif has also been a strong advocate for international cooperation and athlete-centered decision-making, working to ensure that the Olympic Games remain the pinnacle of the sport.

Throughout his career, Tardif has contributed to numerous Olympic projects and initiatives. His service to the Olympic Movement extends beyond ice hockey, reflecting a lifelong commitment to using sport as a platform for education, inclusion and international understanding.
“Receiving the Olympic Order is a tremendous honor,” said Luc Tardif. “I accept this distinction on behalf of the entire ice hockey community – the players, coaches, officials, volunteers and administrators who dedicate themselves every day to our sport.
